Pit Sandbox 1.0

PIT SANDBOX 1.0 - Changelog

It’s finally here! This update brings sweeping changes across the whole game. Read on to find out more!

NEW FEATURE - Bosses!

This update introduces bosses, a new, optional way to progress. Bosses award Coins and XP, but also come with their own completely new progression system and loot! Due to how they work, there are around ~24,000 unique bosses to fight overall!

Notes:

  • There are 4 Boss Spawners scattered around each map. Periodically, these refresh, allowing a new boss to be summoned for the whole lobby to fight. Spawner timers are synced across lobbies to prevent abuse.
  • There are 6 “Base” bosses with their own rarity, entity type, passive ability, and loot pool. Higher rarity bosses are harder, and drop better loot.
  • When a boss is generated, it randomly selects an amount of attacks from a pool of possibilities. Rarer bosses select more, harder attacks. Attacks may activate on a timer, on a health threshold, or after taking an amount of hits.
  • On top of this, bosses may spawn with one or more modifiers. These increase the boss’ stats, and alter how their attacks work, but also drastically improve the loot they drop.
  • Each “base boss” has its own loot pool: in total, there are 50 rare loot items to collect from bosses!
  • There’s a new skill to progress: Hunting. Killing bosses awards Hunting XP to level the skill with, up to Lv. 100. Each level grants a Hunting Talent Point, which can be spent in a new resettable Talent Tree to improve your power against bosses. (talk to Gareth to view it!)
  • Every player now has a Curse Meter. This can be filled by fighting bosses, and, more slowly, by killing bots. When full, it awards a random Curse Orb, which can be crafted into the Curse for a specific boss. Curses allow you to summon your own, personal boss to fight, by placing it in a spawner which is on cooldown. Only you can fight this boss, no other players can engage - good luck!
  • While fighting a boss, you cannot fight other players.

NEW FEATURE - The Obelisk

All bosses drop an amount of Starless Ash, which can be spent at the Obelisk. Activating it grants you a random amount of Coins, XP, and Hunting XP. Additionally, it has a chance to award you with an Encrusted Cache - the main source of the new Ancient Enchantments. Want to become stronger accross the whole game? The Obelisk also has a set of upgrades, upgradeable at the cost of Boss Materials, which give some insanely useful perks.

Notes:

  • Coins and XP obtained from the Obelisk scale to your prestige requirement.
  • The Obelisk can be levelled up to 100 via Obelisk XP - Each level unlocks new Obelisk Upgrades and permanently increases your Coins and XP, both from streaking, and obelisk activations.
  • This serves as the main way to earn Encrusted Cache in the game, and as an alternative way to progress besides streaking.

NEW FEATURE - Xaroth, Soulshards, and Cards.

With the new renown upgrade, Bad Decisions, you’ll be able to visit the long-imprisoned Xaroth. He’ll offer you a deal - disable your Divine Protection, but earn Soul Shards from streaking. Soul Shards can be spent to increase your Reputation Level, granting you a choice between two Cards. These offer powerful perks, and can be upgraded by collecting copies.

Notes:

  • New renown upgrade: Divine Protection. Grants 50% damage reduction from and to players while in middle, and causes megastreak damage bonuses to only apply to bots. Can be toggled.

  • Note: We’re looking for feedback on this feature, and balancing suggestions are welcomed.

  • Xaroth offers you The Pact. Toggling it on causes your Divine Protection to be forcibly disabled; however, you may now earn Soul Shards from streaking. There’s a 1 hour cooldown when toggling the pact on, to prevent abuse.

  • Earning reputation levels with Xaroth provides you with Cards, and a passive Coin and XP bonus. These are only active when the Pact is toggled on.

  • When you earn Soul Shards, they are Unbanked. If another player kills you while you have unbanked soul shards, they steal them all from you. To bank your Soul Shards, use a new Extraction Point outside of mid.

  • This feature is intended to provide rewards to for hunters and PvPers - and to streakers who are willing to take some risks. However, it also allows people who don’t want to engage in being hunted all day to gain an advantage. We’ll be carefully monitoring the impacts of this feature, and will make balance changes accordingly.

NEW FEATURE - Ancient Enchantments

Obtained from the Encrusted Cache and Bosses, these are new, powerful counterparts to existing enchants. To start with, 15 are being added into the game. Once they are unlocked, they are permanently useable.

Notes:

  • Each Ancient Enchant has a Counterpart. For example, the counterpart to Quadrillionaire is Billionaire.
  • To use an Ancient Enchant, you need to Toggle it. This converts all of your counterpart enchants to their ancient version, and vice versa. (E.g, billionaire on all of your swords will be converted into quadrillionaire. This can be reversed.)
  • This means you cannot use, for instance, Quadrillionaire and Billionaire at the same time.

NEW MEGASTREAKS - Highroller, Frostburn, and Soulshredder

For ages, the midgame has been dry, having an enormous gap between unlocking, for instance, Highlander and Gilded. Highroller and Frostburn aim to fill that gap, serving as an intermediary between major megastreak unlocks. Soulshredder, on the other hand, serves as a way to earn more Soul Shards under the Pact. It probably has the most unique mechanics of the three, taking some heavy inspiration from the Riftwalker debuffs. All megastreaks come with their own set of mastery upgrades.

Notes:

  • New Megastreak, Highroller. Unlocked at Prestige 30.

  • On this streak, you don’t immediately get the coins you earn. They’re stored in a pot, and given to you every 400 kills. However, when you’re given the coins, you could earn from 0.5x to 2.5x the amount you grinded!

  • The further you go, the more coins you’ll earn, thanks to the mastery upgrades. However, healing will become more and more difficult as you continue…

  • New Megastreak, Frostburn. Unlocked at Prestige 35.

  • This streak is pretty cool.

  • Transition between two phases: Frozen and Thawed. To begin with, you become frozen, starting with 10 stacks of frost. While frozen, you store all the XP you earn. Each kill grants a 5% chance to remove a frost stack, letting you move faster and heal more.

  • When you manage to get rid of all your frost, enter Thawed phase, becoming unstoppably overpowered for a short time. All your hits are electrified, you move super fast, and you leave a trail of fire behind you, obliterating bots! Also, every second, you get some of the XP you accumulated in Frozen mode.

  • Watch out, though! An area of middle freezes every 8 seconds, dealing damage and increasing your frost stacks if you stand on it.

  • New Megastreak, Soulshredder. Unlocked at Prestige 40. (Replaces Grand Finale)

  • Earn additional soul shards, increasing with the amount of debuffs that are active.

  • Gain 10 soul shards for every 30 seconds you survive in mid.

  • However, two random debuffs are always active, swapping every 20 seconds. Debuff amount increases with streak, up to an extra +2, making for some outrageous combinations.

MASTERY TREE OVERHAUL

The mastery tree has been restructured to be simpler to understand and progress through, while still allowing a degree of choice. Additionally, LOADS of new mastery perks have been added!

Notes:

  • Revamped the Mastery Tree GUI

  • Prestiging now grants 4 Mastery Points instead of 2

  • Overall, mastery XP from streaking is more consistent, and very buffed.

  • Added 22 new Mastery Perks, reworked 4 Mastery Perks

  • Changed prestige unlock requirements for Megastreaks. A new mega may now be purchased from the tree every 5 prestiges. This should make progression feel more consistent and rewarding.

  • Highlander: Prestige 0

  • To The Moon: Prestige 0

  • Nightmare: Prestige 15

  • Uberstreak: Prestige 20

  • Hermit: Prestige 25

  • High-Roller: Prestige 30

  • Frostburn: Prestige 35

  • Grand Finale: Prestige 40

  • Gilded: Prestige 45

  • Made of Time: Prestige 50

  • Apoc: ALSO prestige 50!

  • Riftwalker: Prestige 60

KILLSTREAK PERK EXPANSION

We’ve added loads of new Killstreak Perks, including a 4th killstreak slot! To balance this out, twinclaws is now a selectable killstreak. Many of these are unlocked at higher prestige levels, adding new incentives to reach the higher prestiges.

Notes:

  • Added 8 new Killstreak Perks. Check them out ingame!
  • Added a 4th KS slot, unlocked at prestige 17
  • You can no longer see descriptions of killstreaks you haven’t unlocked.

PRESTIGE 80

It’s finally here! Unlock the two new bracket colours, as well as new mastery perks and Evolution Points for your trinket. Will you be the first to max out?

RIFTWALKER REWORK

After a long time of being buggy, confusing, and annoying, riftwalker has received a full overhaul, improving its mechanics, loot, and adding a whole new progression system!

Notes:

  • Rift debuffs have been overhauled. Existing debuffs have been re-coded, and new ones have been added.

  • Debuffs now scale differently: Start with 2, gain +1 every 5000 kills.

  • Normal healing is now disabled on CHAOS mode.

  • Every 100 kills, gain +1 heart. Kill requirement is increased by 50 per chaos phase.

  • Rift debuffs have been reworked to deal a reasonable amount of damage in conjunction with the slower healing. Aka, no more one-shots.

  • Bots no longer hit you or deal knockback in CHAOS mode at all.

  • Reworked rift artifact, relic, and heirloom to reduce rift heal requirement.

  • Reworked Rift Abilities

  • Removed Energy mechanic.

  • Rift abilities are still randomly selected on each harmony phase. To activate them, you must fill a resource bar of either Coins, XP, True damage, or Damage.

  • Rift abilities can be leveled up to level 5 by continuing to earn their respective resource, increasing their power for the rest of the streak.

  • Only one ability is active at once, however, each now has a passive perk that is always active by leveling up the ability.

  • (Also, we reworked frost nova to actually be useful now!)

  • Added Rift Storm

  • By reaching a 15k streak, you enter the Rift Storm.

  • This activates an absurd amount of attacks at once; it’s unlikely you’ll survive.

  • The Rift Storm can be delayed with Trinkets and a new Mastery Perk.

  • Added Trinkets (Unlockable from prestige 60)

  • Ability enfusers are now replaced with Trinket Bags.

  • Trinket bags can be opened to recieve a random trinket. More trinkets are unlocked between prestige 60 and 70.

  • Trinkets provide a powerful buff, as well as a tradeoff. Collecting duplicate trinkets levels up the buff on a trinket. If you’ve already maxed it out, the trinket is instead boosted to level 6 for one life!

  • There are 13 trinkets to collect in total, for now.

  • From prestige 70-80, each prestige awards a trinket evolution point, granting a new buff to a trinket of your choice!

  • Added a new Riftwalker Leveling system.

  • Successfully sacrificing grants you some Riftwalker XP depending on how many chaos phases you complete.

  • This XP is used to upgrade your Riftwalker Level, up to 25.

  • Riftwalker levels grant trinket bags, wildcards, crowns, riftwalker rare drop chance, and the new Cthonic Chaos Phase mechanic!

  • Added the Inner Void, accessible from p60.

  • Riftwalker “hub”. View information about abilities, attacks, rare drops, leveling, and buy some horrible soup.

MISCELLANEOUS

There’s loads more to this update, both great and small. I’ll briefly bullet point some important things here:

Notes:

  • Added a new immersive tutorial for new players

  • Added 2 new events: Pizza and KOTL!

  • Added Mystery Boxes. Up to 5 can be earned each day, from bots and bosses, evolving into a random rarity when opened. The highest rarity offers rewards such as books of contracting and books of megacoins!

  • Reworked spawns on all maps.

  • Added Kill Effect Blends.

  • You now have two player kill effect slots.

  • Added Blend Boxes. These let you choose one of your Kill Effects to unlock a random Blend cosmetic for. If you have the Blend for a kill effect in your first slot, you may choose to have two active at once.

  • E.g, if you’ve unlocked the “snowman” blend for the “rekt” kill effect, you may equip them simultaneously!

  • All Megastreak descriptions within the Upgrades menu now dynamically update their stat descriptions depending on the mastery upgrades you’ve unlocked for them.

  • Added 3 new upgrades to the Upgrades menu.

  • Absorption is now affected by Healing modifiers.

  • Upgrading an item to t3 now guarantees a new enchant unlock/upgrade.

  • Blessing boxes can no longer contain blessings that you’ve already unlocked.

  • Tweaked the Mystic Well animation.

  • Knockback related enchants no longer work on riftwalker users in CHAOS mode.

  • Using /stoptracking now sends you your tracking information before cancelling the tracking session.

  • Made significant UI and UX improvements to almost every menu and description across the game.

  • Improved the visuals of the Skill XP bar, and added a level-up animation.

  • Added a new Monk perk: equilibrium.

  • Protection III diamond chestplates now have multiple paths. Instead of only counter-offensive, they have multiple abilities that can be applied.

  • Added 2 new blessings: Soul Mitosis and Tryhard Conversion

  • Added a new perk: Battle Cry.

  • Buffed Shielded: True damage you receive is now capped at 1 heart per second.

  • In gamble event, the player’s tickets are not removed as soon as they win, so third place tickets isn’t most likely to get first.

  • Reworked Berries: +20% speed, +50% damage, but have a 20% chance to remove 50 streak.

  • Added a bunch of new Kill Effect cosmetics.

  • Improved level up sounds and animations.

  • Added a multicolored animation to the floor of mid on levelup.

  • Lanterns around mid now change color to indicate prestige progress.

  • Added Curse Boosters

…And so much more! There’s too much in this update to accurately list.

THANK YOU!

Everything about this update has been a labour-of-love. With it, we aim to set sandbox up for a successful future, where we can attract a wider audience of players. We hope you really, really enjoy it.
